Layla turns 1
December 13th, 2009 - posted in: babyi went to stacey and mike’s house to shoot layla, for her first birthday.
stacey wasn’t sure how layla would do, but she really hammed it up!
shooting at home is the best, people really show you what they love when they invite you in.
mike and stacey’s home is a great combo of soft neutrals and fun bright colors,
and layla matched perfectly. -tif

every chance she go she was doing tricks or playing peekaboo. -tif

she loves to talk to her animal friends that live in the top of her crib. -tif

did i mention how much i love ruffles? -tif

we got everyone together for a couple family shots by the tree and i couldn’t help but snap a few of lucy,
the family’s golden retriever. -tif

oh man, get ready for some sad puppy dog eyes. -tif

this is layla’s dish, yes a baby dish, on a side table, in the kitchen
it came about because she kept steeling lucy’s dog food out of the bowl.
ingenious really, now she has her own…..
not that it keeps her out of lucy’s water. -tif

awesome shot tiff! – jonathan

this is probably one of my favorites,
saving the best for last. -tif

Hey Michel. we really dont use lighting on family shoots or most shoots. you just gotta crank the iso and have as wide as an aperture as you can. occasionally tiff uses a bounce flash, but i never do. its all ab out improvising! thanks for the kind words

I love all the soft tones you guys use in your photos and I’m a big fan of the slanted angles in your shots. I think I’m learning more about photography and composition by watching the photos you guys post than from most other photographers. I think as far as the philosophy of photography, I believe in the same things you guys do: Take photos of families in their own comfortable settings. Homes are great, though it’s often difficult with lighting (especially since I don’t have any professional lighting devices). Right now I’m doing a lot of improvising. I’m doing a family in a few weeks for a Christmas shoot and I think I’m going to try and catch them during the day and open up the windows. Any suggestions?
